As you know, Scouting is a voluntary organisation and a charity, and as such we rely on subs and donations to pay for the running of our Group. We always need tents and other equipment to make sure that all the children can enjoy the opportunities that we parents expect from the Scout movement. You may ask – “What do the subs pay for then?” A few facts.
We have the lowest subs in the district and we use it as follows:
Spend | % of Subs |
Membership fees | 35% |
Hut maintenance and insurance | 47% |
Badges, scarves | 20% |
102% |
In previous years we benefited from a few dedicated elderly gentleman raising ~£5,000/year recycling paper. Eventually they had to retire and no-one was forthcoming to take this on.
We need to raise over £2,500 each year in addition to subs (around £25 per child), since the above shows we need more money than subs provide and this takes no account of the money spent on materials and food for Hut-based activities and badge work.
